## Year 7 Technologies

Course overview

## The Technologies curriculum is written on the basis that all students will study both Technologies subjects from Pre-primary to the end of Year 8.

#### Within Design and Technologies, students will study both Food specialisations and Materials and technologies specialisations over the first semester. In second semester, students will study the Digital Technologies curriculum that will enhance their knowledge of hardware and software systems used to create technology based solutions in a real world context.

**Design and Technologies**

In Year 7, students have opportunities to learn about [technologies](https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/p-10-curriculum/curriculum-browser/syllabus/technologies-overview/glossary/technologies "Display the glossary entry for technologies") in society at least once in the following [technologies contexts](https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/p-10-curriculum/curriculum-browser/syllabus/technologies-overview/glossary/technologies-contexts "Display the glossary entry for technologies contexts"): [Engineering](https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/p-10-curriculum/curriculum-browser/syllabus/technologies-overview/glossary/engineering "Display the glossary entry for engineering") principles and systems; Food and [fibre](https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/p-10-curriculum/curriculum-browser/syllabus/technologies-overview/glossary/fibre "Display the glossary entry for fibre") production; Food specialisations; and [Materials](https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/p-10-curriculum/curriculum-browser/syllabus/technologies-overview/glossary/material "Display the glossary entry for materials") and [technologies](https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/p-10-curriculum/curriculum-browser/syllabus/technologies-overview/glossary/technologies "Display the glossary entry for technologies") specialisations. Students are provided with opportunities to design and produce products, services and environments.
**Digital Technologies**

In Year 7, learning in [Digital Technologies](https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/p-10-curriculum/curriculum-browser/syllabus/technologies-overview/glossary/digital-technology "Display the glossary entry for Digital Technologies") focuses on further developing understanding and skills in [computational thinking](https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/p-10-curriculum/curriculum-browser/syllabus/technologies-overview/glossary/computational-thinking "Display the glossary entry for computational thinking"), such as decomposing problems and engaging students with a wider range of [information](https://k10outline.scsa.wa.edu.au/home/p-10-curriculum/curriculum-browser/syllabus/technologies-overview/glossary/information "Display the glossary entry for information") systems as they broaden their experiences and involvement in national, regional and global activities.
