# Model of learning

Offered in equal measure, students will engage with a combination of remote collaborative and independent learning.

## Model of learning

Offered in equal measure, students will engage with a combination of remote collaborative and independent learning.

**Collaborative learning offers opportunities for:**

- building connection and social interaction
- peer to peer learning
- robust and supported discussion
- uninterrupted learning for all
- collective problem solving
- thinking skills to be challenged

**This is successfully achieved through:**

- case studies and scenarios for analysis
- debating, discussion, and questioning techniques
- peer assessment and feedback
- individual, partner and group work
**Collaborative learning** is an online classroom experience like no other. Our classroom is richly interactive, offering your child the opportunity to practise critical skills in a safe and supportive environment. We challenge our learners to be capable communicators, socially confident and reflective by nature. Our classroom inspires each child to share their ideas, collaborate with their peers and bring their learning to life by contributing their unique experiences. All our students feel like they are part of a special and connected community where their opinions and ideas matter.

****Independent learning** offers **opportunities for students** to:**

- hear explanations from their own classroom teacher
- mark their own work and compare to a model response
- receive live personalised feedback from their teacher
- chose how they learn through the various inbuilt support
- choose how they present their ideas

**This is successfully achieved through:**

- questions with answers marked immediately
- building complexity in content for challenge and engagement
- video explanations recorded in our purpose built studios
- animations that explain concepts using time and space
- audio explanations to support choice of learning
- simulations to explore physical concepts
- embedded slides, interviews, images and documents
Independent learning** has a deliberate focus on understanding content so your child can think, research, practise and learn, free from classroom distractions. Each weekly module of learning includes critical support that has been developed by your child’s class teacher to meet their needs. Learning has never felt so supported and inclusive. This unique feature of the programme allows the student and teacher to work together, meaning your child’s personal and academic needs are always taken care of.

## Technology

### [SEQTA and MyEd](https://global.scotch.wa.edu.au/schedule/seqta-and-myed)

SEQTA is where you complete the weekly independent learning through MyEd and receive comments on your progress from your subject teachers. This is also the platform where you access important information such as, subject course requirements, weekly schedules, assessment calendar, exam schedules and semester reports. SEQTA is used to provide teacher feedback on your formative assessments, assessment results and indicative grades. Both students and parents have access to the SEQTA portal for clear communication.

### [Microsoft Teams](https://global.scotch.wa.edu.au/schedule/microsoft-teams)

Microsoft Teams is where the collaborative classes take place at a scheduled time each week.

## Additional technology used in Connect Years 7 to 12

### [Microsoft 365](https://global.scotch.wa.edu.au/schedule/microsoft-365)

Microsoft 365 is used to provide additional resources to students and is where the teacher and students can collaborate through platforms like OneNote.

### [Self-service applications](https://global.scotch.wa.edu.au/schedule/self-service-applications)

Relevant applications that assist students in their day-to-day work are free and available to download from the school’s self-service website.

### [Online library](https://global.scotch.wa.edu.au/schedule/online-library)
