Scotch Global is grown from Scotch College, a private, independent school founded in Perth, Western Australia. Informed by its rich 127-year history, the College champions progress in education.

In 2001, Scotch began offering the International Baccalaureate (IB) Primary Years Programme (PYP), followed by the Middle Years Programme (MYP) in 2003 and the Diploma Programme (DP) in 2010.

### Requirements

#### **Understanding the IBDP**

The IBDP itself has been running since 1968, with more than 1.7 million students studying the Diploma since its inception. Last year, approximately 190,000 candidates worldwide sat their IBDP examinations at over 7,500 schools spread across 150+ countries, with over 2,300 of those schools in the Asia-Pacific region. That total reflects a more than five-fold increase in the number of students undertaking the IBDP since 2000.

#### **Breadth of study**

One of the greatest strengths of the IBDP is the breadth of study students undertake. Students must choose a subject from each of the first five groups (1–5) below and are actively encouraged to choose a subject from the arts as their final subject.

Students may elect to study a second subject from Group 3 or 4 in place of a Group 6 subject. Scotch Global firmly believes that students benefit tremendously from studying a subject in the arts.

Students take an equal number of courses at standard level (SL) and higher level (HL). Both SL and HL courses are completed over the two years and require 150 hours and 240 hours of instructional time respectively.

SL and HL courses differ in scope but are assessed against the same grade descriptors. HL candidates are expected to demonstrate the various elements of the grade descriptors across a greater body of knowledge, understanding and skills.

#### **Additional requirements**

The IBDP has additional requirements that students must meet on top of their six subjects.

**Creativity, activity, service (CAS)** is at the heart of the IBDP and, with its holistic approach, is designed to strengthen and extend students' personal and interpersonal learning. CAS is one of the things that sets the IBDP apart from other courses at this level.

**Theory of knowledge (TOK)** plays a special role in the IBDP, by providing an opportunity for students to reflect on the nature of knowledge, and on how we know what we claim to know.

**The extended essay (EE)** is an independent, self-directed piece of research, finishing with a 4,000-word paper.

#### **Grading**

In the IBDP, students receive a grade for each course ranging from seven to one, with seven being the highest. The highest total that can therefore be awarded for six subjects is 42.

The theory of knowledge (TOK) and extended essay (EE) components are awarded individual grades and, collectively, can contribute up to three additional points towards the overall IB Diploma score.

The maximum score that a student can earn in the IB Diploma is 45.

#### ****Graduating requirement****

To be awarded the IB Diploma, a student will need to:

#### ****Recognition of the IBDP online****

The IBDP is recognised in over 150 countries across the world and is widely accepted by the leading universities including all Ivy League colleges in the United States, the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge, and Russell Group universities in the United Kingdom. Admissions officers acknowledge the academic rigour of the IBDP and the role it plays in preparing students for university.

An online student needs to meet the same course requirements as a student studying the face to face. All examinations will need to be sat in person at an official examination centre such as Scotch College and therefore students who complete the IBDP wholly online receive the same qualification as those who completed it in a traditional classroom.

### What are typical daily hours/timetabled sessions?

We operate on +8 GMT and will be running our timetabled classes from approximately 12pm through to 4pm each day. There are three classes of online collaborative sessions with students and a teacher across Monday to Friday.

### What pastoral arrangements are in place?

We are school that focuses on whole child development. Whilst we understand students are in their final two years of school and may want to focus wholly on the academic journey, we know that the best results will come when the child feels, happy safe and supported. We have a strong pastoral programme that means your child will have a person who overseas their development and assists them through the more challenging times. However, we do not offer regular ongoing counselling for mental health issues as we feel this would not be sufficient to meet the child’s needs if this was an ongoing concern.

### Are you assigned a personal tutor?

The IBDP prepares student extremely well for university through the design of the programme. The internal assessments, theory of knowledge (CAS), extended essay (EE), creativity, activity and service (CAS) all work towards building a student’s capacity to tackle tertiary studies. Our school manages students through these milestones to make sure they are best prepared for university. They will be given a dedicated CAS, TOK and EE supervisor along with a classroom mentor who will be monitoring their academic progress and intervening when they feel your child is not meeting their potential.

Additionally, we also offer support through our post-school pathway for students who are looking to move to Australia to complete their undergraduate degree. We help them adjust, find their feet and ultimately, we give them the skills needed to transition from university in to the work force.

### Are you able to join mid-year with an IB subject change/is there support in place for catching up etc?

As we will only be beginning this journey from September, you would essentially start the Diploma again and would sit your final exams in November 2026. You would need to select from the subjects listed above.

### Do you need the camera on in lessons?

This is preferable but we do understand that some students may have anxiety around being in social settings that would warrant the camera being off. The most important aspect of your child’s journey is that they should feel safe and supported. We would work with every family to meet their child’s needs and make sure they feel comfortable. We would hope that over time they would feel confident to have open class discussions in a small, supported classroom as we build their capacity.

### What will be the fees till end of the year where are you based?

The annual fees for an international student are approximately $33 800. We are located in Perth, Western Australia and so this is in Australian Dollars.

This is inclusive of;

- An Apple Mac Laptop
- 15 hours of teacher directed class time with a max class size of 15.
- 15 hours of carefully curated modules for each subject that builds the curriculum knowledge and has been designed by our experienced and successful teaching team. This includes instructional videos, questions, model answers and weekly feedback on your child’s work.
- Access to a student and parent learning portal that will help manage your child’s learning requirements. This includes information on the courses being studied, weekly learning intentions, teacher communication, timetable and assessment schedules plus additional feedback on all completed assessments to help with targeted improvement.
- An annual study camp hosted at Scotch College to manage the requirements of the internal assessments, Extended Essay and the Core components. This does not include flights but does account for all other expenses while your child is in Australia.

### Is there a set daily timetable for virtual classes?

Students at Scotch Global Connect have a daily timetable that they will need to follow for all collaborative sessions, occurring between 12:00 pm to 16:00 pm each day. There is also a schedule for independent learning, however, the timing for this is flexible. Students have choice over when this is completed throughout the day.

### Are there programs for student support or enrichment?

Personalised learning is a critical aspect of the education provided through Scotch Global Connect. We work hard to understand your child’s strengths and gaps in their knowledge and skills. To ensure that we help every child reach their potential, we offer both support and extension and we will work with you to demonstrate how this done. Every student’s journey is unique and therefore as specialised teachers, we know how to help them on their pathway to get the best possible outcomes.

### Will Scotch Global provide support in applying for University placements?

Yes, Scotch Global will provide all necessary references and transcripts required to complete university applications and will support students and families in navigating this process.

### How will student assessments be conducted?

Assessment is an important part of understanding how your child is progressing against the standards outlined by the International Baccalaureate. We will be ensuring assessments are a regular part of your child’s learning programme and you will be informed of when and how they will be conducted through our assessment calendar for the term. Two weeks after the assessment has been sat, the marked assessment, and feedback will be provided to both the student and the parents. This feedback will include a mark that aligns to the assessment criteria and a marking rubric that highlights what went well and areas for improvement.

### How can parents get in touch with the school?

The relationship between the parents and the teaching staff is very important to us. We encourage parents to make contact via email or phone. Our staff are dedicated and committed to helping all our students and will return emails or calls within 48 hours.

### Does Scotch Global Connect offer co-curricular activities?

The learning itself throughout the day is designed to offer wide ranging activities that encompass traditional co-curricular programmes. This aspect is built into their tasks and activities, making it easier for students to enjoy their day and balance hard work with more enjoyable and relaxing tasks. Our co-curricular programme is always based on students interests and as we get to know your child, we will be looking for further opportunities to make sure these passions can be explored. Some of the areas that we can provide additional support in is music, chess, debating, book club, art club, yoga and sport.

### What is the enrolment process?

Scotch Global uses Enrol HQ, a reliable online schools’ admissions platform. When you enrol, you will be asked to set up an account through your email address. This will then take you to a parent dashboard that you are able to access at any time, update information and store information pertaining to your child’s enrolment securely. From here, you will be asked to pay an initial enrolment fee of $150 that will begin the process. Scotch Global’s admission team will review the information and will be in contact to schedule an interview with the appropriate Scotch Global staff.

### Can I enrol at any time?

Enrolment into a year group can be requested at any time, however, the acceptance of the enrolment will be dependent on class sizes and our ability to cater for your child.

### What if I need to withdraw my child?

If your circumstances change and you need to withdraw your child, you must provide at least one terms notice to avoid any ongoing charges. We would work with your child’s new school provide as much information as possible to assist in a seamless transition.

### Are there any scholarships or discounts available for fees?

Whilst there are no formal scholarships available for students, we may be able to source funding for extenuating circumstances. Formal application must be made in writing to the Head of Scotch Global.

### Will the school provide a device for my child?

As part of the tuition fee, your child will be supplied with an

- An Apple Mac Laptop

The device will have all learning software installed. This is the only device the students will need to participate in all learning requirements. Some students may wish to use an external monitor and keyboard, but this will need to be purchased independently.

### Is technical support available for online learning?

Both students and parents will have access to IT support during school hours and email support after school hours.

### What measures are implemented to ensure a secure online learning environment?

All the work completed online is monitored by the Connect teachers along with their interactions on Teams.

### How much time will my child spend on a screen?

Your child will need to be on a screen for collaborative lessons which is approximately 2.5 hours a day. However, much of this time is spent in discussion with the teacher and peers, it is very interactive and less about reading on screens. The independent work will be delivered through the online learning platform, however, during this time the activities asked of them will include handwriting in notebooks, reading physical books and completing practical activities such as art, science labs, cooking and material design. This would be no different to the technology use in a regular brick and mortar school.

### What happens if we lose internet connection during the collaborative sessions?

Whilst this will be disappointing for your child, the lessons are all recorded and where there is value in going back and watching the lesson, they will be able to do so. The teacher will be aware that your child is no longer online and will contact them as soon as they can to relay any important information. It is rare that students lose internet connection, but we are aware this does happen and have planned for this event.
