Although the ocean encompasses 71% of our planet, it remains less explored than the surface of the moon or Mars. This marine science course hopes to be the catalyst to change that statistic. Each student will dive into an immersive exploration of the marine world and develop a scientific literacy they can carry into the future.

With an initial focus on marine biology, ecology, botany and oceanography, students will cultivate an understanding of the complexities of the ocean. As students apply this knowledge, they will confront the challenges that humanity and the planet will encounter if the oceans remain unprotected.

The emphasis then shifts to investigating the influence of human activities on the ocean and the consequences of climate change. Research into sustainable practices and conservation strategies used around the world, provide further opportunities for students to foster their critical and creative problem-solving skills.

### Meet our course facilitator Charlotte Krause

## Charlotte Krause is a passionate educator and self-proclaimed nature nerd. With a Bachelor of Science (Marine Biology & Zoology) from UWA and a Diploma of Secondary Education (Science and Mathematics) from ECU, she has spent the past several years teaching in secondary schools around Perth and is excited to bring the world of Marine Science to life.
